01 September 2020 – 28 February 2021

The Kuala Lumpur Biennale introduces its second edition, KUL Biennale 2020, featuring the theme ‘Tanah Air (Sa)Udara’ [Earth, Water, (One)Air], the elements of nature that are intimately intertwined with the life of the people in Southeast Asia whose landscape is characterised by mountain ranges, plains and plateaus, rivers and waterways and islands and archipelagos. These elements have decisively shaped the social, economic and political course of the nations in the region. Insightful observation can only emerge from a deep meditation on the essence of these elements and their relationship to one another and a profound understanding of what is all around us, the lessons that are there from the past and the questions that beg to be asked?

This event provides a platform for contemporary artists and creative practitioners from Malaysia and neighbouring countries to articulate their response to the theme and exhibit their artworks in Kuala Lumpur and several other designated locations.
